Matthew Edwards is a music educator specializing in piano and choral/vocal music, with an interest in composing for school ensembles, churches, and communities. He resides in metro Atlanta, where he teaches piano at M. D. Roberts School of the Arts in Clayton County, serves as music director and organist of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Snellville, and teaches private organ lessons through Clayton State University’s Music Preparatory School.
His compositions include a cantata for choir and chamber orchestra, In dir ist Freude, and a concertato on “Come, ye thankful people, come.” Upcoming publications include The St. Matthias Book of Descants and “Home is where the heart is” for SATB choir and piano.
Before moving to Georgia he was organist and choir director of St. Matthias Episcopal Church in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He earned the Master of Arts in Secondary Education (Music Education, Vocal/Choral Emphasis) with Dr. Marvin E. Latimer, Jr., and the Bachelor of Music in Organ Performance with Dr. Faythe Freese, both at The University of Alabama. He is a member of NAfME, ACDA, MTNA, NEA, and a lifetime member of the American Guild of Organists.
