Zachary K. Devin joined the Institute for Healthy Singing & Voice Research as a Fellow in 2021. He is Assistant Professor of Voice & Opera at the University of Kansas, teaching applied voice, vocal pedagogy, and diction.

In 2024 he completed the Ph.D. in music education with an emphasis in vocal pedagogy through the Music Education/Music Therapy Department at the University of Kansas. He received his undergraduate degree in music from Millikin University and graduate degrees from Rice University and The Royal Academy of Music in London. Before joining the KU faculty in 2024 he taught applied voice at the University of Missouri–St. Louis, Ottawa University, Lindenwood University, and St. Charles Community College, and has taught vocal and choral pedagogy, choral conducting, lyric diction, speech anatomy, and speech physics.

His research — presented at conferences of the Voice Foundation, NAfME, and the Kansas Music Educators Association — includes vocal fatigue in collegiate singers, vocal health, warm-ups, vocal function exercises, and pedagogy. An active operatic tenor, he was a young artist with the Lyric Opera of Kansas City, Nashville Opera, Dayton Opera, and the Brevard Music Academy, and made his professional debut in Budapest as Peter Quint in Britten’s The Turn of the Screw. Concert work includes The Creation, Messiah, Elijah, Britten’s Serenade for Tenor, Horn and Strings, Carmina Burana, and Bach cantatas with the Peoria Bach Festival, American Kantorei of St. Louis, and St. John’s Parish of Kansas City.
