Laura Rene Baker

Development Director

Laura Rene Baker grew up in Prairie Village, Kansas, and became involved in choirs and handbells at an early age, beginning church choirs in kindergarten and handbells at age nine. After graduating from Kansas State University in 1989 with a degree in Interior Architecture she worked with firms in Florida and Kansas before creating Art + Design, blending work as an artist with interior architecture. After later work as an architectural project manager she created Pie Baker Lady, combining work as a baker, author, entrepreneur, and artist, and published the cookbook Pie as Art. She continues to promote her illustrations in galleries across Kansas.

In 2020 she was appointed Development Director of the Choral Foundation, responsible for grant applications and funding campaigns, and for social-media graphics, content, and photography. She is the longest consecutive member of the William Baker Festival Singers in Kansas City (since 1999) and a charter member of Kansas City Bronze, the Summer Singers of Lee’s Summit, and the Summer Singers of Kansas City.
