Chris Barnard was born and raised in Nebraska and graduated from Hastings College with a bachelor’s degree in K–12 Music Education. In 1998 he relocated to Kansas City and earned a Master of Arts in Music at the University of Missouri–Kansas City.

He taught in the Kansas City, Kansas School District, spent fourteen years at St. Agnes Catholic School in Roeland Park developing music education and performance programs for children ages 4–14, and later taught children’s music at Curé of Ars Catholic School in Leawood. Alongside professional work he has devoted much of his life to music and worship leadership at his church in Kansas City and in South Africa. He has studied bassoon and saxophone, and also tuba, bass guitar, upright bass, and piano.

In 2009 he became a member of the William Baker Festival Singers, beginning a fifteen-year association with the ensemble. He was a founding member of Kansas City Bronze and developed as a bass-bell specialist. He served as concert manager for Kansas City ensembles and assisted with concert video production. In 2024 he relocated to Cape Town, South Africa, and continues to serve on the Board of Trustees and as head of Concert Video Production for the entire organization.
