Dr. Priscilla Benge Zimmermann joined the Institute for Healthy Singing as a fellow in 2021. A native of Ohio, her family relocated to Oak Park, Illinois during her high school years. She attended the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign before receiving bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music education and choral conducting from the University of Iowa. She also holds an Ed.S. in Educational Administration from the University of New Mexico and an interdisciplinary Ph.D. in Music Education and Resilience Education from the Union Institute and University in Cincinnati.

She has been active in choral music and education in northern New Mexico since 1973 as a singer, voice teacher, choral director, and clinician. She was guest conductor of the Sangre de Cristo Chorale’s Reverence and Joy for the 2017–18 season.

Her current work focuses on the aging singer. She develops and teaches music courses for Santa Fe Community College Continuing Education and the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Arizona in Tucson. Her teaching is informed by training in Alexander Technique and Orff and Kodály certifications. She and her husband, Eugene, divide their time between Santa Fe and Green Valley, Arizona.
